YOU SHOULD AUDITION FOR......JYP ENTERTAINMENT!!!

Since JYP entertainment are hosting global auditions right now I bet A LOT of people are panicking because they can't find a song to match their voice that will blow the judges away or they are looking for the right hip-hop song to dance to that will show off their amazing Taemin/Taeyang/Jay Park-like dance moves right?! ^_^ Well I thought it would be a good idea to introduce people to JYP ent. so they can understand JYP's style and what he is looking for in trainee/future JYP artist.

So with all that said LET'S GET STARTED!!!

Now I bet you are thinking about auditioning for JYP entertainment but you want to know things like trainee life in JYP, how to audition and all that stuff. Well....here you go

Auditioning for JYP entertainment

JYP is looking for talents in the following four categorizes ONLY, singer (dancer/vocalist), Actress/Actor, Model, VC/VJ. Anyone can audition regardless of age, race/ethnicity, nationality and gender. JYP entertainment offers several ways for talented hopefuls to audition.

Q: What does JYP entertainment look for in potential trainees?

A: JYP specifically said he goes for manners over talent. "You can be talented but what is the use if you have no manners?" quoted by CEO Park Jin-Young (JYP) himself. He likes people who are natural and who can't hide from being themselves. I say manners are important! Having manners and being respectful can take you places that you can't get to with just talent alone...but having some talented never hurt either. ^_~   He also looks for passion. "Sincerity and passion are the most important" quoted by JYP. You must have the passion to sing, you must have the passion to dance and you MUST have the passion to be the best!

Here are some article(s) discussing the topic of what JYP looks for.

  1. Online Auditions
  2. Mail/Post Auditions UPDATE JYP no longer has mail/post auditions!
  3. Live/Global Auditions

ONLINE AUDITIONS

The online audition is the simplest and cheapest way to audition for JYP. Just go to http://audition.jype.com/  and create an account, complete an application form and upload a video/audio/photo of yourself. After submition if, the judges see potential you will be notified through email telling you the next steps of your audition process. Even though this method of audition is free and more convenient  I have never heard of anyone being noticed or passing through this type of audition. I'm not saying it doesn't work it's just that I haven't heard of anyone passing or getting through the first stage of auditions with this method.

Online Auditions = More convenient BUT Less effective

MAIL/POST AUDITIONS

The mail/post auditions will cost some money because you have to pay for shipping and handling and all that and it's a little more complicated because you have to go through a little more trouble but it's not that bad. With mailing auditions you have to physically send your stuff (such as application form, video, photos, etc...) to JYP headquarters in Seoul, Korea. I have done this method twice I think and I do prefer more than the online auditions because I know that they will get it in their hands and they will see it. Their people that have passed from this audition you can view their videos here ----> JYP Audition Youtube channel and if you want to know things like the address and what to include inside the package CLICK HERE!!! Once you submit you have to wait for the company to contact you through email to tell you what the next steps are in your audition.

Mail Auditions = Less convenient BUT little more effective

LIVE/OPEN AUDITIONS

There are two type of live auditions, Open auditions or Global auditions. Open auditions are held at the JYP center located in Seoul, Korea and are open every 1st and 3rd Sunday at 2pm. Global auditions are held  annually/yearly but definitely not as often as Open auditions. Global auditions are auditions that the company holds in other countries outside of South Korea (such as, USA/Canada, Europe, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, etc...) Global auditions are very effective because if you get chosen from these auditions you are automatically given a position as a trainee in the company, which makes the competition much more fierce because EVERYONE that auditions wants that chance so you aren't just competing locally but GLOBALLY! But unless you live in South Korea or in a captial/ well-known city like New York, LA, Beijing, Bangkok, Tokyo, etc... it won't be as convenient for you because you will have to travel to one of the closets places that the audition is going to be held and let me tell you IT AIN'T CHEAP! You will have to pay for transportation (like airfare/plane ticket/ train ticket/ gas money/ etc...) and you have to reserve a hotel room because if you live far away you are going to have to sleep somewhere. Plus you have to have spending money for food, shopping and whatever else other extra curriculum activities you want to do! But even though it's expense it is also very fun! I have gone to the YG 2012 Global auditions in New York and the SM 2013 Global auditions in Washington D.C. and I had a BLAST!!! I had great experiences, learned a lot and made many friends that I am still friends with to this day.  Many many MANY K-pop idols have used this method multiple time so it WORKS!!!!

Open/Live Auditions = Not convenient BUT Most effective

Here are some of the many audition experience videos on YouTube. These two are the most popular they tell you EVERYTHING from what to bring to the audition, how to prepare for the audition, and what to expect.

Here are audition videos of JYP artist.

Trainee life in JYP entertainment

Trainee life for anyone in the K-pop is tiring and hard but with perseverance, faith, hard work and determination hopefuls will have the opportunity to graduate from their training and debut. That is the dream of EVERY trainee in ANY company. But we know that trainees have to go to singing classes and dancing classes, but what other skills or what other classes do trainees have to take? Trainees have to undergo A LOT more than what we think they do.

Article: http://wgjjang.wordpress.com/2009/03/24/news-training-life-at-jyp-entertainment/

The information from the article above states, "Training at JYPE is not limited to only singing and dancing lessons. Byeon shared that they also undergo studies in foreign language(s), community service (focusing on handicapped and orphans), reading, and other special lectures that include proper dieting methods, vocal training, anti-smoking, and proper sex education. For the reading portion, they have a book club in which they read and discuss books they believe are good.
The training ends when all the teachers agree that a student is ready to debut, at which point the student is presented to JYPE President, Park Jin Young. On average, this process takes 3-5 years, but various with individuals.
JYPE expects that students who “graduate” from their training program to become stars. Not only stars who are good at singing and dancing, but also ones who have proper manners/etiquette, can speak confidently, and have humility".
I also know that JYP entertainment also give lessons on acrobatics and playing instruments. Also at the end of every month they have monthly evaluations where the trainees have to show how much they have improved and everything they have learned for that month. If the trainee does well in the evaluations they have more opportunities to be in showcases where they get to show more of their talents, they get offers to be back-up dancers for official JYP artist (on live stage and in music videos), they get more opportunities to be scheduled for events/MV&CF appearances, and most important they get a better chance at debuting.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cool right?! JYP sounds like a great company to be under. I want to be in JYP entertainment (or any company) because the overall feel I get from the company it self is that they really can make you a STAR! They really do prepare you well for ANYTHING!!! A LOT of talent has come from JYP, such as G.NA, Dongwook & Hoya (of Infinite), Choa (of AOA), B-Bomb (of Block-B), CL (of 2ne1), Peniel Minhyuk & Sungjae (of BTOB), Hyuna (of 4minute/also former member of WomderGirls), Daehyun (BAP), Xiumin (of EXO), Chorong (of Apink), Hyolyn (of Sistar) etc.... the list goes on; and not just idol wise some of the staff have come from JYP and made their own companies which are quite successful, such as CUBE entertainment & BigHit entertainment. So I think it's safe to say that if you are in JYP entertainment you are in good hands! ^_~

    1. Hii Adilla! Sorry for the late reply to your comment TT^TT. You asked about flight tickets and tourist drivers. If you pass the online auditions you will be asked to go to Seoul, South Korea to do the other rounds of auditions; those flight tickets will have to come out of your own pocket unfortunately. Because they haven't accepted you as an "official" trainee (with like contracts and stuff) so you would have to pay for the flight tickets and room commendations (basically everything) when you pass the online audition. BUT after you are accepted as a trainee and you have signed a contract THAN they will fund your flight tickets and room & board when you go to South Korea. As for tourist drivers, this one I am also curious about, When you go there after you pass the online auditions since you have to pay for your hotel and stuff you probably will not have a tourist driver sent by the company to come pick you up; you would probably have to catch a taxi or find your own means of transportation to the hotel and around Seoul. But AFTER you are accepted than they would probably have someone come get you from the airport or probably get in contact with you so they can make further arrangements for your arrival.

So all in all, don't feel too down...even though plane tickets can be REALLY expensive and pricey and the cost for taxis and hotels can be pretty steep too...If you REALLY want it maybe somethings can be worked out. I wish you the best of luck in ALL your future endeavors and I hope this was informative for you and I hope it helped you a lot. GOD BLESS! FIGHTING!!! <3

    6. My guess is you have to have experience as in like producers, managers, song makers, etc. I'm thinking you'd probably have to go to college for things like that. While auditioning is easier, so that you have an opportunity to get these kinds of jobs.

  2. Hai,I got so much inspiration from your writing. Since someone has already asked you do we need to buy our own flight or not. So I'm here to ask if there is even just a little chance for the company to buy us the ticket? I am really wondering and if we post it from other country does it guarantee arrive at the company? I hope you can answer soon and thanks again for the tips! :)

    1. Unfortunately, no if you audition from an online audition you will have to pay for your plane ticket unless you are already in Korea.

  3. So if we pass the global auditions we go straight into becoming a trainee? Or is there another room of auditions? If there is is it in the same place as before, or is it in Korea? Would we have to buy our own ticket? Let's say we pass all auditions, JYPE pays for flight, room & board? Do we receive a monthly allowance? What happens if we become ill? Or we need to go to the doctors, wether it be normal, eyes, dentist, etc...

    1. You can do more than that...YOU CAN BE AN IDOL! It's a "state of mind" thing because it doesn't matter what other people say. Whether they tell you yes or no shouldn't determine what YOU decide to do at the end of the day. If YOU want to do it than DO IT! What's the worst the judges can do? Say no, but that's it. Just audition, and give it a try! You will either be successful or regretful...You can do anything through God he strengths you! Whatever you want to do you can do ^_^ I hope this encouraged you to follow your dreams GOD BLESS! ^_^ <3

    2. I kind of want to say that you really shouldn't be saying you shouldn't audition because you're white because paler or lighter looking skin is favored in just about every Asian country, so you're pretty much fine. In my opinion if you were black then that's a different story. (I'm black, but not really going to audition)

  6. Hiii!!
Emh ... I have sone questions about the audition.
After how much time they tell you that you pass the audition?
And after how much time they tell you that you are become a trainee?
Sorry if you don't understand, because I'm from Italy and I don't speak so good english.
    Thank you ☺️

    1. Hii Maria! how long it takes to get through the auditions and to become a trainee ALL depends on the company. Some people go through faster processes and some go through slower ones. Because you don't just go through one audition. There are usually several auditions that you need to go through and then once the company sees potential in you and wants to make an investment in you only then will they take you in as a trainee. But once they accept you there are contracts that need to be signed and then they have to get your visa and fill out a lot of paperwork and get airplane tickets. But once ALL that is done than you'll become a official trainee for that company ^_^ I hope this helped!

  7. If ever I become a trainee, will I be still able to go to school?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. That is a topic that you would have to work out with your company when they take you on as a trainee. There are trainees and even idols that went to school and are still currently going to school. But there are some companies that prefer if you dropped school completely to become a trainee and there are companies that will allow you to go to school and pay for it. But that is something you would have to discuss with your company. I hope this helps ^_^

  8. hello, my daughter is Hispanic but is learning korean. i have agreed to let her audition by the time she is 15 years old. Will speaking Korean give her an advantage for her auditions? she is currently training in hip hop dance and we are looking into an acting coach. any tips will be helpfull. thank you

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. hello! sorry for the waaaayyy late reply TT^TT but YES!!! learning korean will definietly increase her chances! have her take singing lessons, acting lessons, modeling, even some beginners gymnastics. What would also be great is if you got her active in local talent shous, beauty contest; if you can get her into movies and on tv that would be great! get her in a dance team and even making a youtube channel to build a loyal fanbase for her. That way the judge will see that she already has a fanbase, she has been training and she can already speak korean. Also have her speak another language like chinese, or japanese because companies will more than likely promote there as well so the more languages she knows the better! With all this being said the message that I am trying to get across is...make her into an idol now! the less money the company has to spend on training her the more valuable she becomes. And lastly have her go to kpop auditions NOW! and practice her audition and have her look into a camera and practice her audition over and over and do it in front of strangers that way she is less likely to get nervous when its time for her to audition in front of the judges. I hope this helps and GOOD LUCK ON HER DREAM!!!

I'm actually thinking to take an audition at jype but i'm not sure.. I'm only for the summer vacation in seoul for 2weeks and if I would be accepted I have to leave my family, friends and my home. We also have to think about the cons. I read a lot of articles where ex trainees have left after 2 or 3 years bc it was too exhausted for them.

  10. what kind of dance forms we need to learn for audition??? and can we give audition after the age of 20??

    1. It can be any kind of dance of your choice. You can do hip hop, ballet, b-boy, popping, k-pop dance, your own choreography, etc... and YES! you can still audition even after 20. JYP entertainment does not discriminate against AGE, GENDER, NATIONALITY or ETHNICITY/RACE.

    2. but the monthly auditions have age restriction. so we can only rely on online audition. I also want to audition but I lack in dance and singing and my age is above 21.

    1. That just means they want more agents to work for their companies. These auditions aren't for people who want to become kpop trainees these auditions are for people who want to work for JYP's company as management agent, recruitment agents, etc... ^_^

    1. That is up to company. IF you aren't that strong of a singer than you should probably focus more on your dancing and really letting that be your main talent and singing be more like a secondary talent. Still work on your singing because it will be important but REALLY focus on your dance ablities since that is what you are good at. But it's up to the company whether they want to invest in you.

    1. I don't know if you already got answered on this but. If you go to Jype.com
Push the button where it says audition, go further down on the new page that popps up, and push the big blue 'Jyp online audition' button.

The text should still be in hangul, so look to the upper right corner on the page, push the foregnier button and then it will be in english, if it doesn't help you, I hope it will someone else.

    1. Hello! how are you? ^_^ Sorry for the late reply I am just now seeing your comment. TT^TT BUT I think I can help you! I am not sure about management positions and how to get those because I mostly focus on become an idol but I know that JYP does management auditions every now and than; so it is best if you stay tuned to JYP's website and be on the look out for those. ALSO I don't know if you live in the USA but JYP offers internships at the headquarters in USA I know because I called once to see if I could get one lol. That was in 2013 that I called but they probably still do it so you should give it a try! Alright I hope this helps you in endeavors! GOOD LUCK ON YOUR DREAM!!!

  36. Hi! I, m 14, 25%filpino,25%chinese and 50% japanese. I started singing when i was 6 and started dancing at 8. I've also become a model and attended acting workshop but that was 3-4 yrs ago. I am now in japan. About my visual, i am 154 cm and currently weighing 49kg(i'm recovering from being overweight and already lost 4kg for the past 3months due to my desire to be a trainee). My mom doesn't support me that much about performing but my aunt(who raised me for a decade) does. The audition site right now is not working. I already fill the form completely but nothing happens when i click it. What should i do? I moved to japan 6months ago so i didn't have any chance to dance properly anymore but i dance secretly on my room everyday for 2hrs in front of my mirrors(i'm doing that for 4months already. Sounds crazy i know) to practice freestyling. Would i even have a chance considering my situation? I also have a very flat nose. I'm hoping for a reply from you, hehe.

    1. You can audition as a group online. On the auditioning page, there's an FAQ, and it should give you more information. You're allowed to have up to five people in a group. Hope this helped!

    1. Regardless, of whether you think the companies will accept you or not you should still try for your dream. If this is something you really want to do try your hardest at it. I want to be a kpop idol too and I'm an African American girl who is 23 but I am still working towards my dreams regardless. I believe you can do it regardless of your race. Who knows you could be the first Indian kpop idol ^_^ I hope this helped you I BELIEVE IN YOU!!! GRISHMA FIGHTING!!!

  57. haha after reading so many things about jyp auditions it made me a little scared for trying out. I'm a really shy person and I'm not sure how that will help me out there. Will they help me get over my fear of being out there or will that effect my chances of getting in? what do I do if i get in and pass all auditions? Where will i live if I do get in? and I'm Native American, will that also effect the audition and chances?

  61. im 24 non Asian. I look younger though. Can i audition at monthly/global auditions for jyp? The online audition has no age limit but these might have. Also, im improving my dancing and singing but i do not know how to rap and play an instrument. Im more into dancing but I'll make my singing strong before auditioning.

Also, we have to submit audio for singing or video can be sent as well? Have to submit one file as in one song or can we upload multiple songs and dance video?

    1. they will send you an email back if you pass the online audition and then give you details on a public audition. if you're not accepted, they most likely will not respond back to you so try waiting for 3 weeks for a response and if they don't respond back, you most likely aren't accepted :( good luck though!! i'm planning to audition for jyp too :)
